Reminder: Mortgage Fraud Detection and Reporting Obligations

The MPF Program is committed to supporting the detection and reporting of mortgage fraud. We remind all Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs) and Servicers of their obligation to promptly escalate any suspected or confirmed mortgage fraud to both their MPF Bank and the MPF Provider.

Mortgage fraud can occur during loan origination and throughout the life of the mortgage. Remaining vigilant and informed is critical, to learn more and access helpful industry resources, visit:
• Fannie Mae - Mortgage Fraud Prevention Website
• Freddie Mac - Fraud Prevention Website

To escalate a fraud concern to the MPF Provider, please use the Fraud Submission link in the MPF Customer Service Portal.

Prepare for MPF Xtra Escrow Event Reporting Changes

PFIs should begin preparing now for upcoming MPF Xtra escrow event-based reporting requirements.

Review Current Processes and Requirements
Assess existing servicing and escrow reporting processes, including the required reporting fields and file naming convention, to identify any updates needed to support separate escrow event reporting.
Select a Reporting Format
Determine whether your institution will submit escrow event-based reporting using Excel or JSON, as these will be the only accepted file formats.
Coordinate with Service Providers
Work with your servicing system provider or other applicable partners to prepare for the selected reporting method and establish escrow accounts for loans that contain escrows as part of initial reporting.
Prepare for Testing
Begin planning for testing with Computershare once testing becomes available (late-July), including validating file format, content and naming convention requirements.
